2013 was Awiti's year; he was the
favorite for any county post he could have chosen or wanted; getting to
be the Chief Executive Officer of HB in 2013 only took him a brief walk
in the park; he was the undisputed grassroot favorite and thus he
clinched the coveted ODM ticket "unopposed":
If he clinches the
ODM ticket once again, his chances of finishing a full term as CEO of HB
County are, if not certain, very very high: However, that which has
ignited my curiosity is found in a totally different scenario:
What are Akuba's chances of getting that coveted ticket this time round?
It can not be gainsaid that ODM Party positions are usually hotly
contested because they have a direct bearing on nominations for elective
posts: If the divisions occasioned by the recently concluded grassroots
elections in HB are anything to go by, then Akuba's chances in the
coming nominations can be anybody's guess.
What if Akuba misses it? Who is most likely to get it? What if Wakiaga gets it?
If Wakiaga gets it, it is most probable that the 2017 gubernatorial
race will be more on tribal lines than party lines; it will pit
Karachuonyo vs Suba and the winner shall be determined by Ndhiwa, HB and
Rangwe constituencies:
If Karachuonyo fields more than one
candidate, it will be a walk in the park for Wakiaga; however, if they
settle for one candidate, then HB should prepare for s bruising battle:
As at January this year, IEBC voter registration read as follows;
1. Rachuonyo.......................56,179
2. Kasipul..............................39,890
3. Kabondo...........................35,220
4. Suba North.......................36,990
5. Suba South.......................32,440
6. Ndhiwa............................. 57,933
7. HB Town...........................34,427
8. Rangwe.............................33,436
A Karachuonyo candidate supported by the three constituencies only
needs Ndhiwa to win; Wakiaga needs Ndhiwa, HB Town and Rangwe to beat a
candidate sponsored by the three Karachuonyo constituencies:
However, if Wakiaga clinches the ODM certificate he has an advantage
over a Karachuonyo backed candidate because of Jakom's influence on the
swing constituencies; Jakom and his ODM brigade are a big plus when you
have them covering your back; no wonder Wakiaga financed a candidate
during the grassroots elections; and this was besides having the
national chairman coming from his own backyard:
In the above
scenario, a Karachuonyo backed candidate will literally have to beg
Ndhiwa and demonstrate to Ndhiwa that, among other things, being a
running mate is not just a favor but that there is something real that
comes with it.
Wakiaga seems to know some of his weakness and
that is why he is busy scheming through ODM; and therefore, It will take
a very smart guy from Karachuonyo to beat him to the prestigious and
lucrative position of HB's Chief Executive Officer come 2017.
