Kenyans Inherited A Colony Intact As It Was And That Is Why Our Leaders Continue To Behave Like Colonial Masters

When Americans declared their Independence from the Queen, they sat down, took their time and created a system of governance that was best suited to their divergent interest; a federal system of governance was born; the first of its kind in the universe, the rest is history:

Kenya's situation was different; they never declared their Independence nor won it; they were given their Independence after a UN Security Council Resolution against colonialism; they were given their Independence and in that package was a Constitution from Lancaster; the same Constitution the colonialist used in developing economic and social systems created purposely for suppression, brutality, plunder, and most notably, divide and rule:

With the colonial structures intact, Kenyatta simple took over from the white man as the new black colonialist; him and his kinsmen took over everything that was owned and controlled by the white man and became the new colonialist at the helm; the only difference is that he and his kinsmen became worse colonialists:

What Kenyatta presided over during his regime was not tribalism but colonialism; he essentially colonized all the other ethnic communities; when Moi accidentally took over he never bothered to destroy this colonial structure he claimed he hated instead, he perfected it; however, belonging to a group that was championing for a decentralized system of governance just before Independence, it was surprising that Moi now saw no need for change; most likely it was because he was no longer at the receiving end; very typical of an African mindset in leadership:

Kenyans got a perfect chance to destroy the colonial system of governance in 2010 but instead came up with a mongrel of a Constitution; they came up with a system that is still essentially centralized; very little was achieved by the 2010 review process; the reason being that the colonialist communities were allowed to hijack the process:

It will take another overhaul of the Constitution for this part of the world to realize real democratic governance; and genuine positive overhaul shall be achieved only if the colonialist are excluded from participation in the next process of constitutional review:

For now, all other ethnic communities shall have to continue to bear the burden of being colonized.

AWITI VERSUS WAKIAGA RACE FOR NDHIWA HAS JUST BEGUN AND IT HAS BEGUN WITH A BANG!

In my post on "Awiti's 2017 chances", I was bashed by both Awiti's and Wakiaga's supporters for being biased; however, believe it or not, partiality was very far from my intention and the fact that I received criticisms from both quarters vindicated me; interpretation of that post depended purely on the reader and the reader's own inclination:

Since Awiti is the incumbent and so far, Wakiaga appears to be the most formidable contender, my intention is to play out an Awiti vs Wakiaga contest in 2017; however, if in the course of time, the situation changes and more formidable players enter the scene, I shall certainly have to adjust accordingly; and therefore, in the meantime, I will continue to put focus on the above two:

And therefore I have made it a point to closely follow these two:

In the same post I pointed out that Ndhiwa, the most populous constituency, will be vital to winning 2017 and especially for the incumbent because he must contest, whether he gets the coveted ODM ticket or not.

The two have very recently patronized two fund raisers in Ndhiwa within a week of each other; now sample this:

On the 29th of April, Awiti was the guest of honour at a fund raising at Andiwo School in Kologi Ward, Ndhiwa in aid of the business community/women groups in that Ward; this is my home Ward so I followed the function very keenly: the contributions were as follows:

1. Guest of honour, His Excellently Governor Awiti gave his contribution of 150,000.
2. Hamilton Orata gave 50,000
3. Martin Owino (PS Treasury) gave 30,000.
4. Beatrice (Cabinet Water) gave 20,000.
5. Olago Nyandira (host MCA) gave 10,000.

The various groups and other guests present brought in their contributions and the final tally was about KES 400,000:

It was like Wakiaga had informants planted and following the proceedings at Awiti's function because today, 8th of May, Wakiaga has countered Awiti's function with one of his own in the same Ndhiwa at Kanyikela Ward with what looks like a sledge hammer:

Wakiaga arrived in two choppers and a convoy said to be of about 100 cars was on the ground; Wakiaga's contribution was 500,000 while the effort of his entourage raked in 4.5 million; the tally stood at 5m.

It is important to note that the ODM National Chairman and the County Chairman were both part and parcel of Wakiaga's fund raiser.

The battle for Ndhiwa votes between the incumbent, Awiti and his foremost contender, Wakiaga, has just begun with a very strong statement from Wakiaga that if it is cash, he is ready to spend ten times as much as the incumbent:

The BIG QUIZ:

Is Wakiaga trying the incumbent or does he know the incumbent's financial limits; is he in for a surprise? Will Awiti surprise him with an equally strong counter?

Let’s wait and see but if the incumbent does not have this kind of spending power then he must come up with some different but equally effective counter strategies, otherwise, he is in for the roughest ride of his life:

[Money buys and excess money buys excessively].

GENDER EMPOWERMENT BILL SHOT DOWN: PRETENDERS ARE THE MAIN LOSERS:

The Gender Bill is meant to actualize Chapter 4 Article 27 (8) of our Constitution that addresses gender inequality in our society; the provision requires the State to make a legislation that will ensure that no more than two-thirds of the members of elective or appointive bodies shall be of the same gender.

My opinion advises that like the provision that created the position of Women Reps, Article 27 (8) was also wrong in its conception; my opinion further advices that both provisions are classic cases of putting the cart before the horse.

To any father who is proud of her daughters like I am, the idea of gender equality is noble and should be supported wholesomely; however, to use the plight of the millions of marginalized women and girls for the purpose of benefitting a few within the society is immoral.

In my opinion, any attempt at addressing gender marginalization should focus on the girl child and not the woman because each and every marginalized adult woman is the product of a marginalized girl child; sort the problem at its budding stage and you won't have marginalized women roaming around the country; it is a fact that a marginalized old woman is irredeemably marginalized.

Lavishing already empowered women doctors, professors, relatives of the powerful, etc with prestigious and lucrative government positions, does not address issues affecting the marginalized girl or woman in any way, form, shape or manner.

It will take the society as a whole and especially the male folks, for our society to achieve gender parity; a one-third strength in parliament can never force through any legislation; it will only serve to add more to the already empowered; it takes broad consensus to address matters like marginalization effectively and I believe that it only takes one determined person to succeed in building consensus around an idea whose time has come.

Let's not do things because Kagame does; Kagame probably did it for very different reasons; maybe to cover up for the absence of Hutu males in his parliament with a very enticing story of gender equality.

And if it is a matter of copying, why not emulate the US? The US has a much more advanced female society than Rwanda despite the fact that the number of women in the US House of Representatives is just about 10%; what the US has done is simply to focus on the girl child; the US has an equal opportunity clause that ensures every institution uses a 50/50 gender admissions policy in all institutions of learning.

In my humble opinion, the real empowerment in Africa for the girl child will come when medical schools, law schools, engineering, etc, shall admit boys and girls on 50/50 basis; Africa has the lowest levels of females in professional jobs and urgent steps ought to be taken to correct this bad image.

For us to make any strides, we must first appreciate the fact that the share of sacrifices the girl child has made for the boy child are more than fair; that it is now the boys' turn to sacrifice for the girl child; remember the girl child had to be exchanged for "dowry cows" so that the boy child could finish education; she had to opt out of school so that her brothers could be educated with the little that old daddy could afford; also remember that a bright girl's future is more often than not ruined by the very same boys, or an uncle and more so cruelly by a rapist.

It is the girl who scored a B+ and dreamt of being a doctor, or the marginalized rural girl who is need of school fees, or the vulnerable young mothers who have dropped out of school who need an affirmative action bill on their various problems to be passed in Parliament; not a bill to empower the already empowered!

Once equal opportunity is ensured for the girl child at the beginning of her life throughout to college, she won't need anybody's help or advocacy in Parliament to get what she wants in life including those parliamentary positions.

CONING GAME IN MIGORI

Unscrupulous politicians are using vague constitutional clauses to rip where they never sowed:
What are the definitions of "minority group" and "marginalized ethnical"?
Our bogus Constitution does not give any definition, however;
1. The term "minority" as used in the UN human rights system refers to a national or ethnical, religious and linguistic minority.
2. In the UNESCO EFA Global Monitoring Report 2010 defines marginalization as "a form of persistent disadvantage rooted in underlying social inequalities" some examples are girls, women, hard to reach indigenous ppl, rural populations, etc.
The luhyas and Somalis of Migori do not fall under the category of the marginalized whatsoever and must never invoke such constitutional provisions when looking for political gains:
1. The luhyas are not a national minority; out of more than 40 ethnics, the Luhyas are the 2nd largest ethnic community, Somalis are 6th while we are the fourth.
2. When it comes to social inequalities, Luhyas and Somalis have more appointments and employments in the national govt than us.
3. The Somalis are more than Luos in the public institutions of higher learning (confirm with Duale).
4. In Migori County, we constitute the majority of the rural population.
5. Last but not least, they are not indigenous.
To the unscrupulous politicians: get what you want fairly and genuinely.
To Migori leaders: Devolution is here to alleviate the suffering our community has endured in the 40+ years of state sponsored marginalization; and therefore, it must be used purposefully.

SILENT GENOCIDE

The UN defines genocide severally and very clearly: only a person who chooses not to understand "SHALL NEVER UNDERSTAND".
UN Security Council Resolution 260 (III) Article 2 (C) defines genocide as:
Deliberately inflicting on national, ethnical, racial or religious group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part:
The UN charter and resolutions on human rights were crafted and drafted after the WW2 atrocities exposed to humanity what those who have monopoly of weapons in their control can do to helpless innocent beings:

Genocide as articulated in the UN Security Council Resolution 260 (III) continues to be perpetrated unabated in many countries because of its silent nature:
When the FBI secret agents were secretly infecting African Americans with syphillis and giving them free dope, they were deliberately destroying that community: THAT WAS GENOCIDE!

However, the whites in the US got educated, styled up, repented for their sins by electing Obama as president and the past is now history:
The global narrative that US whites are racist lost its wings:
Successive regimes from Mt.Kenya have deliberately inflicted conditions of life calculated at bringing about our physical destruction in whole and in part:
By deliberately denying us jobs, stealing our economic opportunities, under developing our social amenities and infrastructure you have made our children thrice as much likely to die than your children: THAT IS GENOCIDE!

The Kalenjins ensured we got "maisha mbaya" for "siasa mbaya" for 20 good years; however, they got educated, styled up and voted for us to a man in 2007 and got their sins of genocide forgiven; despite the fact that they are in jubilee, we remain friends:

To the Mt. Kenya people; get educated and style up and give us our due lest the country continues being in a state of unrest:
Look around you; the Hutu are a majority being painfully ruled by a minority; repent now to avoid painful times ahead.
HABBAKUK: CHAPTER 2: 4-8.
